Flexible Learning Options for Aspiring Yoga Therapists

We know that students need to study when, where, and how it best suits their needs. All of our programs are offered online, with some available in live and hybrid formats in New York City. Whether you're looking for Yoga Teacher Training in New York or Yoga Teacher Training in New Jersey, our diverse formats make it easy to participate from anywhere.

In our online sessions, you interact live with the doctors and therapists of our faculty. Our hybrid courses offer the best of both worlds: you can complete the course online, with in-person workshops to complement your learning. And if you love the ultimate flexibility, our self-paced learning option lets you learn at your own speed and on your own terms.

What Makes Our Yoga Courses Different?

At PYI, we offer more than just Yoga Alliance and IAYT certification. Our evidence-informed approach combines traditional yoga with modern medical insights from leading doctors, teachers, and yoga therapists. We prepare you to create person-based wellness plans addressing body, mind, and spirit.

We believe in a holistic approach that can be applied in individual and group yoga therapy sessions. You'll learn from top professionals in the yoga and healthcare fields. This integrative approach helps you become a well-rounded yoga trainer who can provide personalized care to your clients.

Steps Involved in Getting Your Yoga Therapist Certification

Here's how to become a certified yoga trainer with our IAYT certification program:

  • Meet Prerequisites: Ensure you have a 200-hour yoga trainer certificate, one year of teaching experience, and one year of steady yoga practice. At PYI, you can begin your 300-hour yoga teacher training while earning your one year of experience concurrently.
  • Apply: Submit an application with a $225 fee (with $175 refundable if not accepted).
  • Complete Core Modules: Engage in essential modules like Yoga Therapeutics Essentials, Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy, Yoga in Healthcare, Functional Anatomy, our signature Sound Yoga Therapy Course, Cancer Care, and more.
  • Choose Electives: Select additional courses like Yin or Yoga for Osteoporosis - or transfer in applicable hours of prior study.
  • Complete Practicum Hours: Gain practical experience through mentored practicums - with the option to specialize in Ayurveda, Mental well-being, Musculoskeletal Yoga Therapy, and more in 3 Practicum modules.
  • Earn Your Certification: Finish all required hours and receive your certification!

These steps ensure that you receive a comprehensive, integrative therapeutic yoga education. You will be prepared to help your clients embark on their own journeys of wellness in a clinical setting or one-on-one. The practicum hours will give you hands-on experience that is critical for becoming a competent and confident yoga therapist.

Benefits of Online Yoga Certification

Online certification offers several advantages:

Flexibility

Online yoga certification offers flexibility. You can study anywhere and at any time. You can fit your education into your life, whether you have a full-time job, a family, or other obligations. With our Absentee Policy, you need only be present live for 75% of the live online hours.

Affordability

Online training programs are more affordable than in-person programs. There's no traveling and accommodation required to attend classes far from home. Moreover, you can pay in advance or choose a payment plan, spreading the cost over several months. This allows more people to pursue their passion for yoga and become certified yoga trainers without breaking the bank. With our transfer policy, yoga teachers and healthcare pros may transfer in up to 225 hours of training.

Access to Experts

Online IAYT certification programs give you access to leading doctors and professionals in the field, regardless of geographical limitations. Whether you're learning from a renowned doctor in New York or getting mentored by an accomplished yoga instructor from Los Angeles, online courses bring world-class instruction to your fingertips. You'll receive a top-quality education and learn from the best in the industry.

Self-Paced Learning

It takes work to balance training with personal and professional commitments. Online yoga certification courses combine self-paced study hours with meaningful, live sessions with your faculty and cohort. You get a grounding in each module before moving on to the next one, so you feel like you're learning rather than cramming. You have as much time as you need on whatever you're learning, but you're still accountable and will be encouraged to progress.

Online therapeutic yoga certification offers unparalleled flexibility, affordability, expert access, and self-paced learning opportunities. These benefits make it an excellent choice for anyone with a beginning yoga certification to expand their abilities when it comes to back care, cancer care, slow flow yoga, and so much more.

  • After teaching yoga for over 15 years and leading Yoga Teacher Trainings for over 6 years, I felt the urge to be able to expand my toolbox to better serve my clients with more specific needs, work more holistically, and work through the lens of Ayurveda more deeply. Additionally, I wanted to bring Yoga to populations outside of a Yoga studio and into different kind of settings.

  • My favorite subjects at PYI were my courses in Ayurveda and on nervous system regulation which have profoundly enriched my own practice and significantly transformed how I work. However, I loved all PYI’s Yoga Therapy courses as they were truly transformative and equipped me with invaluable resources, shaping me into a highly skilled and well-rounded Yoga Therapist. I’m forever grateful to my amazing PYI teachers and the teachers who came before them!

  • I currently teach in Atlanta, GA and also in Germany (Munich, Berlin) offering vinyasa-based group classes, specified workshops, YTT training, and 1:1 yoga therapy.

  • Most of my yoga therapy clients experience chronic stress, burnout, insomnia and are recovering from injury.

I’m excited to be able to apply so much of my Yoga Therapy training as now my work is deeply rooted in Ayurvedic principles and nervous system regulation, with a strong emphasis on intelligent sequencing. I focus primarily on nervous system regulation as it is prerequisite for healing and meaningful shifts.

I’m currently developing a New Work concept for corporate companies to elevate employee health using somatic practices and yoga therapy integration, set to launch in 2025.

  • Second Year Student Enrolled in the Yoga Therapy Program

  • It has supported the students I teach in so many more ways than I ever imagined. It's brought so much more knowledge about the mind, body and the relationship between the two, and how we can use all these tools to assist others in a therapeutic way. These trainings unleveled my teachings and also enabled me to obtain accolades that I would have never imagined - from working with Outside+/Yoga Journal to being nominated as and "influential woman" in the Valley for the impact my work has had on the community to serving on a few Boards related to this work in the Yoga Community. Honestly, none of this would have happened without my PYI Yoga Therapy training.

  • I brought a Hot Slow Flow class to our schedule because of PYI, and they are two of our most popular classes of the week. I was able to help fellow teachers learn how to teach this class and down-regulate the students. Hot Slow Flow has been a big hit.

  • Absolutely. They have proven their dedication to learning everything they can about yoga, including safety, best practices, philosophy, anatomy, everything! I would love to have a teacher with this kind of excellent education.

  • I loved Yoga Therapeutics. I learned a ton of new information that I could go out and use immediately in my classes and privates. But really, I loved all of the classes, and it's so hard to choose one over the next.

  • Yoga Therapy Program Grad

  • Ahh! I am hopeful in the near future to open a yoga therapy practice within my current business.

  • Oh goodness yes:) I always want someone with medical knowledge.

  • Restorative and meditation. As someone invested in moving my whole life, learning to sit still has been a mindset adjustment. Down regulation is a key component to managing our stress and for many of us this has to be a learned process.
